Saturday Reflections

Image
Alysia led the morning devotion in the JulieMango restaurant at the hotel.  Using Colossians 3:17, she shared that have been seeing our faith living out during the week in Jamaica.  We were also reminded that we  called to service back home.  All of this service is for the glory of Christ. Joel shared that the delay in getting the supplies strengthened our group by getting to know each other more deeply.  Jamie shared that relationships deepened with our Jamaica friends as there was no language barrier.    Rachel shared that she witnessed her own personal growth while leading her station. Our bags were packed and loaded into two vans.  We headed home to continue of service for the Lord.  We hope to share more with our friends and families in the days and weeks ahead.

Joyful Hearts for Christ

We got together a little earlier in the circle of chairs at the hotel on Friday.  We began by signing thank you cards for the helpers who served at St. Andrew's this week.  We enjoyed our conversations and Starbuck products, anticipating our last clinic day. Joel led the devotion using Psalm 5:1-3.  Known as the morning psalm, it speaks of laying before God our needs in prayer before jumping into the day.  We prayed silently those personal needs.  We also shared aloud a prayer for a particular person.  Joel shared a commentary from John Bunyon imploring us to pray and read, read and pray.  We know that the word of God is a means of grace. Deuteronomy 6 teaches us to have those words of God's instruction on our hearts.  We are reminded that Paul used the words to construct his arguments with others about the love of God.  There is great joy in receiving His Word. We were again greeted by new friends waiting in chairs at the worship center at S...

Dwelling among us

This morning as we gathered under the large tree at the hotel, John had the song "Great is Thy Faithfulness" by CeCe Winans playing. We know that He is faithful and true.  We stand in awe of what we have seen and done with God's help this week in Kingston. Deb led the devotion using the words of James.  In chapter 2:15-19, we read how James declared faith without works is dead.  We need both to be true followers of Christ.  We know that the faith we have in us internally shows itself outwardly through actions.  Jesus spoke this in Luke 10 in His parable of the Good Samaritan.  Jesus is our model for how we should take actions to serve others.  We sang the song "Here I Am Lord".  We joyous sang "I will go if you lead me."  Following prayer, we then sang "Happy Birthday" to Deb as she celebrated her birthday today! Pastor Ite was alerted by several people early this morning that they were waiting at the worship center for the eyeglass clinic....

Sharing the Gospel

Image
We began our morning like other mornings at the hotel.  Some go for a walk, some prepare for the day, some head to Starbucks to bring back product for other team members.  But today was different:  Jesus had released the imprisoned glasses! Jamie led our devotion based on Paul's letter, Phillippians 1:12-14. We have been given the opportunity to share the Gospel of Jesus Christ with our friends without fear.  We sang along with Chris Tomlin on "Take My Life and Let it Be", reminding us to use our feet to take that freeing message to others. We arrived at the worship center to lay out of tools and eat a light breakfast. We arranaged our station locations to ensure proper flow between education, testing, dispensing the eyeglasses.  The signs that Brenda created were placed outside.  We shared a prayer and broke off to manage the stations.   We were able to start early to accomodate those that arrived early.  We knew that those screened before w...
